Kinokuniya Kaosiung Dome, Taiwan
The 1200sqm flagship store within Southern Taiwan is located within the children's department of the mall. With this context, the store experience draws from a Japanese illustration book 'Chiri & Chiriri', where 2 young children explore and discover joys within the woods. Moods and scenes inspired from this narrative would lend themselves to the design of the ambience, and in turn, we hope that the shoppers may momentarily be slowed down to find joys in what they read.
The theme of the magic forest is instilled within the store, and we try to relate it beyond, where the immediate edge of the store is linked to an outdoor events garden. The main circulation path formed a natural loop, pointing to the store's main entrance and the outdoor garden to further this play of 'garden touring'.

This lit-tree ribbon path would twirl along the enclosed loop to conceal the central area, where curved shelves of varying heights ‘stone’ around in formation. Here, you would enter to discover a zone where the entire mood is altered with colour inversions. The petals of the ceiling spirals around the eventual celebration of the bud with custom made glass light fixtures.
Elsewhere, you would find furniture and display units inspired from treasures of the woods. And amongst these, there lies plenty in which the shoppers may find their own while immersed within the printed jewels.
