The Orangery, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Gallop Extension (2022)

The restaurant is a new building which is situated on an existing plateau just below Inverturret, maintaining the existing heritage building’s visual prominence while allowing for easy access between buildings via a sheltered linkway. The restaurant’s square hipped roof composition is a direct reference from Inverturret. A structured and regular column grid supports the roof under which, a more organic and playful form defines the internal restaurant areas. This playfulness within an ordered composition references the heritage elements and unique character of Inverturret. The restaurant is a modern interpretation of element present in traditional English Garden design and their placement of structures in a landscape.
